North Tyneside required a visionary ‘road map’ masterplan to bring together a number of recent initiatives and projects currently under construction to provide an exciting, coherent vision for the future of the Coastal Strip associated with Cullercoats, Brierdene and Whitley Bay.
The central focus to the study area is the iconic Spanish City which has been recently awarded funding through the Heritage Lottery Fund’s Heritage Enterprise Grant securing the building’s future and place in the culture of the region.
The coastal strip is typified by strong character areas and an intriguing legacy of seaside promenades, spaces and gardens all providing dramatic views of the sea and access to the beaches. The objective of the masterplan is to provide a coherent vision that will enable identification of specific projects which can be prioritised and implemented on a phased basis as and when funding becomes available and to provide a detailed, but coherent vision for future piecemeal delivery.
