University of York Heslington East Campus

York Health & Education

TGP was appointed as part of a multi-disciplinary team to develop a masterplan for a new 115-ha campus for the University of York on land situated within the green belt.

The development of this site has resulted in a radical transformation of the area, which was the subject of a full Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). The vision for the new campus included the development of master planning principles following extensive consultation with staff, students and the local community.

In accordance with the development brief and to meet the conditions of the Planning Consent and Public Inquiry, a high-quality parkland setting was developed as a context for the new campus. This was created along with the creation of new habitats including a new lake and balancing ponds, grasslands, woodlands and wetlands.

This led to further work on Colleges and Public Realm throughout the University Campus.
