TGP were commissioned by the Ullapool Harbour Trust to design the urban realm treatment for the proposed widened Shore Street road corridor and new promenade area south of the revised carriageway. The project is being spearheaded by Ullapool Harbour Trust in collaboration with Transport Scotland and the Ullapool Promenade Group, a sub-group of the local community council.
The design proposal aim is to address highlighted safety concerns raised about traffic congestion in the busy tourist village and Ullapool-Stornoway ferry port. A number of key themes have come through in the detailed public consultation responses, including the need for the development to be aesthetically pleasing and requests for specific considerations for cyclists. The widened corridor will be achieved by the construction of a new sea wall south of the existing wall, a new promenade bounded to the west by the main harbour entrance and to the east by the sailing club, with stepped and ramped accesses down to the beach.
TGP will continue work in partnership Ullapool Harbour Trust to advance the design proposal post planning in partnership with Affric Limited and Wallace Stone Engineers with a view of work starting on site in late 2021.
