Drumsagard Village Residents Association and Drumsagard Trust appointed TGP Landscape Architects to develop a feasibility design masterplan for the former steel works site at Hallside. The project brief for Hallside Heritage Park included the consideration of wildlife conservation, industrial heritage, active and passive recreational use, and education, with a view of designing a new community green space which would also become a local destination to attract visitors. TGP are proposing to improve the entrance points and perimeter areas to allow greater visual interaction to facilitate increased usage of the greenspace.
A series of consultation events were undertaken to allow the public to give their views on both the current site issues and potential design ideas. Design ideas included new signage or wayfinding, sculpture, educational trails or boards, play areas, new entrance gateways and path improvements. The format of the exhibition boards allowed for the inclusion of additional comments section to allow residents to raise concerns over any other site issues and design ideas that may have been missed out. The feedback from the public at the events was very positive with the initial landscape design ideas relating to play, recreation, art and education well received.
