Lilias Centre

Glasgow Health, Care and Custodial

The Lilias Centre houses up to 24 women and continues the Scottish Government’s vision of managing female offenders in a way that better supports their rehabilitation.

The CCUs will support the needs of women who would benefit from closer community contact and access to local services. Women will be supported to live independently in accommodation based on a ‘shared house’ principle to develop a range of independent living skills, which are reflective of real life.

TGP worked on the project from RIBA Stage 3 to 6, in collaboration with Baker Hicks Architects. The designs aimed to enhance the sense of continuity between interior and exterior spaces as part of a holistic view to site design providing features to assist with the mental and physical well-being of the prisoners. This included the consideration of sight-lines from windows, towards focal points / artworks within the garden areas and the consistent use of materials and colour palettes between interior and exterior spaces.
