Supporting the development of renewable energy generation in Scotland

30th October 2026

TGP Landscape Architects are delighted that TrioPowerLtd’s* 40MW Solar & 9MW BESS Farm near Kirknewton has recently secured unanimous approval from West Lothian Council.

Through appointment by SLR, TGP supported the planning application, providing Landscape Planning services in assessment and landscape mitigation proposals. Further assessment in relation to the Indicative Grid Connection Corridor was also provided.

Following approval, TGP’s Principal Landscape Architect, Christopher Lockett commented that,

“Close collaboration between the client and consultant team ensured that a robust site plan and mitigation strategy was presented that addressed the concerns of local residents and consultees. The site plan was developed to keep local undesignated paths open, with appropriate set-backs from heritage and landscape assets. The mitigation plan was established through site assessment and close working with the project Ecologist to preserve habitats and enhance existing degraded watercourses.”

The 76ha site will be positively transformed for renewable energy generation and storage, with TGP’s landscape mitigation proposals incorporating visual screening and appropriate biodiversity enhancement.

The development will connect into the existing substation at Currie.
