Given the scale and extent of the HMP Glasgow site, the aim of the landscape masterplan would be to introduce innovative character areas as part of a unique design framework that will ensure an integrated approach to public realm, amenity, biodiversity, ecology and drainage.

A strong “green vision” for the Site provides a connected “layered” landscaping and open space regime. The planting design applied to both the accessible and amenity courtyards has included pollinating herbaceous species and ornamental grasses to provide texture, scent and flowering interest, with taller planting included to provide a screening attribute to other operational areas within the prison.
