The company was commissioned as part of a consortium including MWH and Entec to provide specialist landscape architectural services in connection with a new water treatment works for the Wear valley. The project initially included visual appraisal of 9 potential sites for development of the works, followed by detailed environmental assessment of the preferred site at Wearhead below the existing reservoir in the North Pennines AONB.
The company provided expertise in site selection evaluation, visual impact assessment, multidisciplinary working, detailed landscape design and contract management. The project has involved 3D modelling and the preparation of photomontages for liaison and consultation.
The project illustrates that, by early dialogue with all agencies and local authorities, accurate assessment, good site selection, sensitive design and mitigation measures, location of a major development in a sensitive location is possible without a lengthy public inquiry. The project also illustrates our ability to work as a part of a successful multi-disciplinary team including engineers, architects, quantity surveyors and other specialists.
