The Company provided landscape design services for a new junior school on the site of a former hospital, adjacent to Hunter’s Moor in Newcastle upon Tyne. The derelict hospital was demolished as part of the works with some elements of the original building retained as features throughout the landscape areas on site.
The site is well wooded with the trees covered by TPO’s. TGP adopted a careful approach, working closely with Newcastle City Council’s tree officer to retain valuable trees and habitat, whilst transforming the site to provide more of an open parkland feel. Breakout spaces were provided for each classroom and these were tailored to each year group’s needs enabling lessons to take place outdoors. The grounds include drop off parking, formal entrance space, sports pitches, natural play, an amphitheatre and school gardens.
TGP liaised closely with Dame Allan’s School Teachers, Parents and Children to produce external spaces where learning and play could both take place.
