The aim of the project is to improve movement through Ayr Town Centre, particularly for those choosing to walk or cycle. It seeks to ensure that moving through the town centre is safe, easy to navigate and pleasant for all users. TGP and Civic Engineers were appointed by South Ayrshire Council to investigate ways that the public realm and accessibility in Ayr Town Centre might be improved. This work formed part of a bid for funding from the Sustrans Community Links Plus fund, which was submitted on 26th April 2019.
Improvements which were identified included enhancing footways, reducing street clutter, improved signage, responding to safety concerns expressed by users and also restricting waste pickup and deliveries to times which will minimise the impact on town centre users. This would enhance links from the town centre to key destinations and make the wider cycling and walking networks more attractive.
