£2.3 million Lottery Funding for Hirst Park

TGP’s Newcastle Office is delighted to have helped Northumberland County Council secure £2.3 million in lottery funding for Hirst Park in Ashington, to improve the park and its facilities. The funding will be provided by The National Lottery Heritage Fund and The National Lottery Community Fund as part of their Parks for People programme, which supports the regeneration of public parks and green spaces.

The money will be used to restore the park’s historic features, including the iconic central pavilion, as well as to improve accessibility and upgrade facilities such as play areas, sports pitches, and the park’s café. The project aims to create a welcoming and safe environment for visitors of all ages and abilities to enjoy.

Hirst Park, which was originally opened in 1919, has long been a popular destination for local residents and visitors alike. The park is home to a range of wildlife, including birds, insects, and bats, and offers a tranquil space for relaxation and recreation.

The funding will enable the park to undergo a significant transformation, ensuring that it remains a valued community asset for generations to come. In addition to the restoration work, the project will also provide opportunities for community involvement and engagement, including volunteering and educational activities.

The project is expected to be completed by 2025, and will be overseen by a partnership between Northumberland County Council, Ashington Town Council, and the Hirst Park Regeneration Partnership.
