South Marine Park
HLF Restoration Project. South Tyneside Council. South Marine Park is part of a Victorian complex of parks and recreation grounds which make up 4 kilometres of the seafront at South Shields. The Marine Parks were designed by the Borough Surveyor Matthew Hall. Whilst the park still retained the original design structure and axial relationships, a number of historic features had been lost. TGP undertook the conservation and management plan at Stage 1 and acted as lead consultants and landscape architects at Stage 2 and during the implementation phases. The £5m project seeks to maintain the original design integrity and character of the park whilst responding to the requirements of today. The project has involved considerable liaison with the community including new Friends Group and arts initiative through Creative Partnerships. Horticulture Week Awards 2009 Winner of Best Park or Garden Category, LGN Streetscape Awards Winner Lighting Category, Green Flag.
